The impact of the Iraq War on my life and the world around me tended to follow a pattern. Something would happen that was really sad or unsettling or upsetting, and then the topic would settle into the background for a while. We wouldn’t think about it; it just lived in the back of our minds. Then, when you weren’t expecting it, something like this would pop up and the war would be front and center again.
